The Songs featured here are from a series that began in 2015.
They are often began with acrylic paints and finished with oils. Sizes range from 10x10 to 24x48.
Aside from his decades-long figures practice, this is Quentin’s largest body of work to date; each week he created two or three new Songs, drawn from the experiences and emotions of those days.
These drawings within the Songs series are created with inks and brush pens. Their sizes range from 15x11 to 30x22.
This series originated with drawings began about 2010 when Quentin was traveling. Paper and ink was a much more portable media for when he was away from his studio. The drawings have since evolved into richly patterned and colored works, though some are occasionally still done in only black ink.
Both the drawings and paintings in the Songs series inform one another, and were often constructed simultaneously through the weeks.
Figure drawing is a regular part of Quentin’s practice. He uses these sessions primarily to sharpen skills, but many of the resulting sketches, drawings and paintings can be appreciated as finished pieces.
The figures included here are a sampling of over twenty years of practice.
